West indies will be facing England today here at providence. West Indies overcame Ireland pretty comfortably in their opening match and should face a much stronger test against an England side. English team would be desperate to win this match and make a mark in this tournament. Engalnd camp would be feeling confident after they beat SOUTH AFRICA in a warm up match one week before. Ottis Gibson (WI coach) will have plenty of inside knowledge about this England team and has regular captain Chris Gayle back from injury to implement the regular strategies he makes.
On the dull and slow pitches we have seen so far at Providence, the spinners play a key role and it will be crucial how the West Indies batsmen deal with English spinners. Against Ireland they were almost embarrassed by 17-year-old left-arm-spinner George Dockrell, so Graeme Swann and Michael Yardy should feel confident.
England will be testing out yet another opening partnership in Twenty20 cricket and with Michael Lumb and Craig Kieswetter they feel they have finally stumbled on a combination powerful enough to dominate the early overs. England have worked hard to create a competitive ODI side and with Morgan as a specialist finisher, things don’t look bad for ENGLAND for this match/

Watch out for...
Watch out for kieeron pollar, he is brutal with his hitting capabilities but i think he need to come up a lil bit do that he may get 4,5 overs to play. His outings in the IPL were short and severe, clubbing boundary after boundary on his way to 273 runs at a strike rate of 185.71. If he gets hold of England's pacers, the Providence ground may not be big enough.
The World Twenty20 is littered with stars, many still swirling in their IPL riches. Michael Yardy is not one of them. Yet in the sticky conditions, his nagging left-arm-spinners have proved a revelation in the warm-up games, taking five wickets over the two games at a meagre economy rate. He could throw sand in the wheels of West Indies' middle order and chip in with lower-order runs if England get in trouble.
Team news
West Indies regular captain Chris Gayle will be back after he missed the Ireland game with a stiff buttock, meaning either Andre Fletcher or Narsingh Deonarine will drop out from the team that beat Ireland. Sulieman Benn remains doubtful with his shoulder injury as does Jerome Taylor.
West Indies (probable starting 11) 1 Chris Gayle (capt), 2 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 3 Ramnaresh Sarwan, 4 Narsingh Deonarine, 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Kieron Pollard, 7 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 8 Darren Sammy, 9 Nikita Miller, 10 Ravi Rampaul, 11 Kemar Roach.
England are on baby-watch with Kevin Pietersen looking forward to his first-born, but he'll be available for this opening match and with Lumb expected to keep Ravi Bopara out of the side the top-order is settled. Their fast-bowling options are more muddled with Ryan Sidebottom's excellent form prompting calls for his elevation into the side, but it would be hard for him to dislodge one of James Anderson or Stuart Broad.
England (probable starting 11) 1 Michael Lumb, 2 Craig Kieswetter, 3 Kevin Pietersen, 4 Paul Collingwood (capt), 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Luke Wright, 7 Michael Yardy, 8 Tim Bresnan, 9 Graeme Swann, 10 Stuart Broad, 11 James Anderson.
Pitch and conditions
The cheap boundaries that tend to epitomise Twenty20 cricket should be harder to come by on the Providence wicket. In sweltering conditions the ball should grip on a sluggish surface for the spinners and make any maximums altogether more memorable than normal. It's unlikely the pacemen will have much to draw from the wicket and it will be sweaty work for all the fielders in the heat.
West Indies have an excellent T20 record against England winning three of four encounters, most recently in the last World Twenty20 when they knocked England out of the tournament
England will try out their 16th opening combination but if Lumb does indeed join Kieswetter there will be the added twist that both openers are on debut, it will be interesting to see how they go about it.
My vote will be for ENGLAND unless pollard shines with the bat.

AUS vs PAK preview

The defending champions Pakistan take on Australia today at st.lucia. Pakistan beat Bangladesh yesterday by 21 runs and they will be feeling confident ahead of this match. Whereas on the other hand, Australia will be under extreme pressure to win this. Australia lost their opening fixtures in both the previous world cups and their coaching staff must have briefed them about how important is it to begin well.
Australia is taking this format seriously now and they have specialist T20 players in their current squad. They are with their new captain Michael Clarke. David Warner, Cameron White, David Hussey, Shaun Tait and Dirk nannes are considered to be their T20 specialist with mitchel Johnson, Michael hussey , brad haddin and Michael Clarke having the experience of all the three levels.
Australia has all the three quickies who can bowl around 90mph so dealing with the pace trio of mithcell Johnson, shaut tait and dirk nannes wont be easy. The big decision that Michael Clarke has to make is to whether to go with specialist spinner Nathan haurtiz or to go with hard hitting allrounder Stephen smith!
Afridi said after the match about ‘butt’, i thought maybe he was going to the WI with me, but i don’t think he will get a chance. But when i saw him, he was batting really well, especially in the first six overs, i told salman: ‘you are my main guy’.
Pakistan probably will go for an unchanged side. There was not much of a practice for the middle order batsman of Pakistan in the previous game so it is important for Pakistan that their openers give them the right start.
Australia (probable starting 11) 1 Shane Watson, 2 David Warner, 3 Michael Clarke (capt), 4 David Hussey, 5 Cameron White, 6 Brad Haddin (wk), 7 Michael Hussey, 8 Steven Smith, 9 Mitchell Johnson, 10 Dirk Nannes, 11 Shaun Tait. .
Pakistan (probable starting 11) 1 Salman Butt, 2 Kamran Akmal (wk), 3 Shahid Afridi (capt), 4 Abdul Razzaq, 5 Misbah-ul-Haq, 6 Mohammad Hafeez, 7 Umar Akmal, 8 Fawad Alam, 9 Mohammad Sami, 10 Mohammad Aamer, 11 Saeed Ajmal.
Pakistan better watch out for david warner because the new ball pair of Pakistan provides pace and thats what warner looks for. If he gets a start, it will be threatening one for Pakistan.
"On these types of tracks he'd be very difficult for the opposition."
Shahid Afridi wants Nathan Hauritz to play. But does he really think he'll be a threat or does he just want to face him?
"They're not going to be bowling short. They're going to be bowling full and they're going to be going further. So we'll see what happens."
David Warner is eying the straight boundaries in this tournament
pakistan did it !

Well well well as precdicted Pakistan won the game but having said that it is bad to make predictions in a TWENTY20 match. Surprisingly and strangely M.asif was left out in favour of M.sami who is not at all consistent performer and at times can turn out to be a great gamble to play but anyhow Shahid afridi had the confidence on him and he thought he would be more useful than M.asif.
Winning the toss and batting first was the obvious decision that afridi had to made. Salman butt for me was the surprise of the day, having hit the very first ball of his innings with power towards extra cover was a signal of something really special coming up from him. Both the opener’s intent was clear; just go after the bowlers yet sensibly.
Both aggressed regularly but with thought. Akmal's stance was predictable, almost immediately trying to set the agenda. A bold statement was made against left-arm spin - Bangladesh's most potent weapon - straight away, as he twice swept away Abdur Razzak in the second over. Akmal was the who taking risks was and it paid off when a mis cued pull shot was bluffed by M.ashraful. Bangladesh was made it pay for that chance and akmal started to open his shoulders. On the other hand, salman butt played intelligently, hitting boundary in almost every over. Surprisingly for everyone in the word watching him play, he scored his fifty in just 29 balls.
Akmal got out in the 16th over, then came the boom boom afridi. Pakistan could not capitalize on the perfect start given by their openers and they managed 30 runs in last 26 deliveries.
Pakistan camp seemed pretty satisfied with 172 runs as at the toss, Afridi said anything above 150 would be good.
Amir gave Pakistan the perfect start, getting rid of kayes in the very first over. M.ashraful and Shakib ul hasan played brilliantly well and at one time it seemed like they might even take the game away from Pakistan. With 5 overs remaining and 52 to get with 8 wickets remaining, the match was almost evenly poised.
Afridi game turned to sami, i personally thought it was a bad move as sami can go for plenty but it was the captain’s faith on him, he didn’t disappoint his captain and he got 2 wickets in that over and the match virtually over at that time, with ashraful going out in the next over. Pakistan was safe. Ajmal bowled a superb last over and eventually Pakistan won the match by 21 runs.
There are some positives that Pakistan can take from this match. Salman butt’s inning was special, their opening stand of 142, amir, ajmal and sami bowling pretty well but still there are some aspects of the game on which Pakistan still has to work on. I think their running between the wickets were poor, their boundary riders could not prevent doubles and afridi really has to find a place for ajmal because he is not a quick mover and therefore cannot prevent singles by fielding in the inner ring nor does he has the strongest of arms to field at boundary.
Overall a fine display by Pakistan, yet they can improve. Bangladesh will take many positives out of this game. Tomorrow there will be a cracker of a game between Australia and Pakistan so c yaaaaaa.....

IPL absentees ready for clash
The defending champion of previous ICC T20 cricket world cup, Pakistan will take on Bangladesh in an interesting group A match here in st.lucia. Pakistan has played only six international T20's since the last year final whereas Bangladesh has played only two. No player from either side was featured in IPL, both the team players have just played domestic T20's coming into this WORLD CUP whereas the majority of other international players featured in money rich but now considered corruption rich IPL.
Both the teams favours this short format, as we all know PAKISTAN is a real champ in this format and as far as Bangladesh is concerned, the shorter the format the greater their opportunity.
Cricket is a funny game as said by many famous cricketers but T20 adds more fun to it. Unmatched teams in a test match can provide you a thriller in a T20 match. The format is such that the margin of error is very low, your small mistake can cost you a match therefore you need to be on your toes for the whole 40 over’s.
Considering this match, Bangladesh can turn out to be a big threat for Pakistan as their recent performances against England and India speaks of their improved performances. Players like shakib ul hasan, mortaza, razzaq, ahraful and mahmudullah are all threats to any teams because on their day, they can turn the tables around. Pakistan will be without their T20 specialist umer gul, but still tell me is there any side more flexible than Pakistani team? FIVE all-rounders in the team and 3 of them would feature in any starting 11, my vote is for Pakistan in this cricket match.
Both the teams are blessed with quality spinners and it could be another low scoring match as the pitch would play slow.
Pakistan has to choose between sami and butt, if they play sami they will be with four fast bowlers and 3 spinners to back, but if they play butt, it adds an extra batsman to their line up. It will be interesting to know who plays.
Starting11 (PROBABLE)
Salman butt/sami, hafeez, kamran, umer, misbah, afridi, razzak, amir, asif, ajmal, amir

SPIN WILL BE THE KEY IN THIS CRICKET WORLD CUP
By looking at the warm up matches scorecards and after what happened in the first match of the tournament between NEWZEALAND and SRILANKA, it is obvious to say that spin will be the key succes factor in this tournament. scott styris said in an interview to cricinfo, it seems like these pitches are tired, lot of cricket has been played on these surfaces and we know that these pitches will not support faster bowlers, it is nice to know it suits my kind of bowling so i am looking forward to be a valuable part of the team.
In the business world, only those organization succeeds in the long run who adapt themselves with the external environment as the external environment elements are uncontrollable therefore you cannot control or change them ratheer you need to adapt to the environment. now every team is looking to adapt new strategy and it will not be a surprise if we see spinners opening the bowling just as what nathan mcculum did yesterday.
every team is now changing their strategy, one thing is sure the pitches will be slow so rather praying to GOD that a certain pitch plays fast on a given day, why not start working on shots that can give you runs on these slow tracks.
if we analyse the spin armouries of every team, i think pakistan and bangladesh leads the chart. pakistan has 3 specialist spinners, shahid afridi, saeed ajmal and mohammad hafeez, dont forget fawad alam is also a spinner. on the other hand, bangladesh has also 3 specialist spinners. i like srilankan attack, murli, jayasuria and mendis, whereas south africa has only two, botha and van der merve. india has harbajhan singh and chawla, australia struggles in this deparment as they have only one specialist spinner in the squad, newzaealand has 2,WI has 2.
this is modern cricket for you, spinners opening the bowling, taking wickets and slowing the tempo :P

pakistan team analysis for T20 WC 2010
pakistan cricket team is yet again hot favourites for this grand event. pakistan will be defending her title this time and they will be under new captain shahif afridi which makes it more interesting as he is a pathan and pathans are generally considered to be short tempered so therefore, it will be a great test for shahid afiridi to prove his leadership qualities. individually every player is analysed below
SALMAN BUTT:
Watch out for this under performer in this format. Salman butt is a highly talented opener but yet to show his class in this format. Generally a slow starter, but gradually builds on his innings. This time will be a perfect opportunity for him to show his critics that he can be a valuable part of the team in this format. WI pitches will be ideal for his style of batting as there will be not much bounce and pace in the pitches so therefore, it would be easy for him adjust to this environment. His strengths are his cover drives and cuts, slightly weak on pads, could be targeted on short balls and highly vulnerable for caught behind to the balls leaving him.
kamran akmal:
Kamran akmal, a truly classy player, when he is driving the balls towards cover region. Kamran akmal will be opening the batting for PK team and he will going for a atomic bomb kind of a start to the innings. His role will be as a smasher, just go out there and hit the bowlers all over the park. as there is depth in the batting line up, he would be going bizarre and would be playing his natural shots. There is no doubt in his batting potential but the question rises to his keeping. WC is chance for him to prove that he is the best available wicket keeper batsman in the country. To get him out, better have two points and ask him to cut the ball and chances are there that he might miss hit some short which would land in fielders hand.
mohammad hafeez:
Hafeez proved his fitness and form to the selectors in the domestic T20 championship. He was included because of his incredible innings at the domestic level. Hafeez is a clever customer, he knows how to go about his innings, he places his innings steadily and will play proper cricketing shorts, he is not considered to be a big slogger but still can score some quick runs by playing some really stylish shots. If salman butt plays, he would be coming at number 3, and his role would be to play till the end. He is an excellent bolwer in this format, he takes time to deliver, waits for the moment and checks what the batsman is doing and alters his length according to the situation. It will be difficult to score of him.
umer akmal:
Just watch out for this guy. He is a power house, he is one of the most talented players in the world cricket now. While his elder brother to support him, he will be the biggest weapon of Pakistan team. He can change the game in one over. He is truly a match winner. Runs would not cease for him, he will be scoring quickly. He has every short in the book which makes him even more dangerous. He is also a brilliant fielder. He is my man to watch out in this competition.
MIS BAH UL HAQ:
With umer akmalat no 4, misbah ul haq is the ideal man to come at no 5. He has all the experience with his book. He will be willing to pay an important part in the team combination as he was the main culprit of the inaugural world cup final loss to india. Mis bah ul haq is a strady batsman who can generate quicker then you actually thinks. He will keep palying the opposition and opposition would not even notice that he has scored so quick runs and that is his real class.
shahid afridi:
Boom book afridi has been always a threat to opposition. The more he stays on the pitch, the more problems it creates for the opposition. Coming at no 6 or even 7, his role would be to go out there and dictate to the bowlers. Being the captain, i think he will not be in usual fare, he will be playing sensibly and will try his level best to perform. don’t expect any irrational shots from this man. If he stays for more then 4,5 overs, it would be lethal for the opposition.Boom boom afridi is an excellent twenty 20 bowler, he has proved this that it is difficult to score of him and he is likely to take wickets.
fawad alam:
Fawad alam has been with the team since 4 odd years. I don’t know what is special in him that has compelled selectors to take him to WI. He is not kind of a batsman who will hit the ball out of the park, he is an excellent fielder which makes him a valuable team member in the team. He will not be having big opportunity to perform as when he will be arriving at the pitch, only a handful of overs would be remaining and he will not be required to bowl at all.
abdul razzaq;
Watch out for this man, he will be the KEY SUCCES FACTOR in the team. Coming at no 7,8, he will be having a license to kill bowlers by his powerful hitting. He is the man who can score at an rate of 12,15 runs / over. He will be the key man whose contribution will turn out to be the ultimate difference between the two teams. He does not have great pace, but variation in his line and length makes him more dnagerous.
mohammad amir
:Amir will be leading the attack with the ball. You don’t expect such a slimy individual, aged 18, to bowl at around 150 kph. He is aggressive, sharp and nippy. His outswingers bowled at around 150kph would be difficult to handle. He has a very sharp bouncer that can deceive any batsman in the world. He is truly a world class bowler.
MOHAMMAD ASIF;
If there will be anything in the pitch then mohammad asif is the right person to extract it and use to his benefit. If the pitch supports him, he is dangerous man. He can swing both ways and has a very teasing line and length. Asif and amir will be a crucial new ball pair.
saeed ajmal
Saeed ajmal is twenty 20 specialsit bowlers. He has proved to be one of the best off spinners in this format of cricket. His doosra is highly deceptive.Pakistan has a very balanced side at the moment. There can be only one missing spot in the team and that is their fielding. If Pakistan fields well on the given day, considering the individual strengths, there is no match for match in this format. With the pitches likely to support spin, afridi, ajmal and hafeez are likely to share the responsibility.
OPPORTUNITIES:PAKISTAN has another opportunity to prove the world that they are the best T20 side in the world., after being left out again on IPL auctions, players would be in aggressive mood, their agression can be expressed through their performance.threats:T20 is a format where any team can be a threat. afghanistan, ireland, zimbabwe and bangladesh all are potential threats to every team.internal threat that pakistan is facing is their bad fielding, if fielding turns out to be bad then GOD help pakistan. imagine dropping a catch of david warner or shane watson.
