CRICKET NEW:ROHIT SHARMA fires again for INDIA

INDIA easily overcame SRILANKA'S 242 with ease(with nearly 7 overs spare), thanks to firy rohit sharma who scored his consecutive century in the tournament while Virat Kohli played a mature hand ,as the pair sparkled in a 154-run partnership to charge India to a facile win. r

It has to be said, though, that it was a good toss to win. Overnight rain had left enough moisture on the pitch in the first half of the day to offer assistance to the seamers and also to the spinners. And Sri Lanka were forced to adopt a brand of cricket that smelt of 80s: Start slowly, build momentum in the middle overs, reach a run-rate of four by the 40th, and try to hit out in the end. They ended up on 242, which wasn't a bad effort, but the conditions eased up in the afternoon and the Indians played very sensibly to overhaul the target with ease.

Nearly all the Indian batsmen, barring Rohit, who had brief moments of rashness, eschewed flamboyance for a risk-free approach. Kohli in particular. There was just one shot in anger when Kohli put away a short googly from Ajantha Mendis to the midwicket boundary. For the most part, he dealt in nudged singles as he used his wrists to ping the vacant spaces. He used the width of the crease well, going either fully back or leaning forward, to tackle the different lengths. Later, he unfurled the big shots: an inside-out hit, a pulled boundary and whippy on-drive.

Unlike Kohli, Rohit took more risks. Some appeared almost needless, especially at the start. He rushed down the track for a slog against Thissara Perera, nearly hit Mendis for a catch to long-on and drove Suraj Randiv uppishly on a few occasions. However, he survived those iffy moments to settle down to play a few typically stylish hits. Two stood out for their skill and beauty: He sashayed down the track and lifted Randiv inside-out over covers. He then flicked Perera from just outside off stump wide of mid-on for a gorgeous boundary. He later pulled Dilhara Fernando and lofted Randiv for sixes and brought up his ton with a cut against Mendis. It was 47 for 2 when he had joined Kohli and he led India to a victory with plenty to spare.

If India 's reply was all about Rohit and Kohli, then  Sri Lanka's innings was all about Tillakaratne Dilshan and Angelo Mathews. Dilshan had laid the platform with an out-of-character 61 before Mathews showed characteristic maturity during his 75, which led Sri Lanka's charge.

The conditions demanded such an approach: The medium-pacers got movement and also exploited the two-paced nature of the wicket and the spinners found generous turn to keep the batsmen quiet. Not only Mathews but Dilshan also adopted a sensible approach, though perhaps it might have been dictated by his recent run of poor form.

It was looking good for Sri Lanka but Dilshan ran himself out in the 24th over to allow India to come back into the game. He turned Mishra to midwicket, hesitated before deciding to go for the single, and couldn't beat the throw from Rohit Sharma. It proved to be the turning point of the game; it meant the difference between Sri Lanka reaching 275 and ending up, as they did, with less than 250.

well now the point tables is in favor of india to reach the final as they stood 2nd, now Srilanka need to beat Zimbabwe by a good margin to reach the final

CRICKET NEW:Imran Khan backs Afridi

Former Pakistan captain and legend imran khan as backed PCB’s decision to appoint shahid afridi as the captain for the asia cup and hectic England tour in which Pakistan will play 6 test, 5 odi’s and 4 T20 matches. He further said that the afirid should be appointed for the long term basis ands only if they give me chance in the long run, results will come.

"Since I retired in 1992, Australia has had only three captains where as the situation is completely different for Pakistan, Pakistan has had more than two dozen and that is why there is a big difference between Pakistan and Australia,"

According to Imran, Afridi was the logical choice to lead Pakistan as he is already the Twenty20 captain. "Who else if not Afridi?" Imran said. "I think if they had made anyone else captain, problems would surely have persisted, so I think Afridi was the best choice available."

Imran said Afridi has to be given time if he is to develop into a good leader. "Afridi has been leading the team well in the Twenty20 format. A good captain should be brave, can handle pressure and should have the respect of the team, so let us give Afridi some time to settle and then judge him.

"You can never predict about him as a Test player and a captain until you give him a chance. If he was not playing Tests and now he intends to play, then maybe with responsibility he performs better."

PCB has no idea who to make captain after younis khan’s resignation, they appointed yousef but it failed so afridi was the rational choice for the PCB, afridi was appointed as the captain for T20 world cup and now will lead the team in the asia cup and England tour..

Khan also said he is in favour of having having one captain for all formats of the game. "Cricket is the only sport where you need able leadership and if a captain is successful in one format he could be successful in all three."

This is cricket new for you where everything is possible !

MALIK's ban being lifted

Ban on sohaib malik has been lifted by the PCB and financial plenty of 2M has been reduced to half which shoaib malik agreed to pay.

"His appeal has been partially accepted," the PCB's legal advocate Talib Rizvi told to media"The ban has been lifted and his fine has been halved. The board has the right to review the decision but as of now he is eligible to play for Pakistan again."

It was never clear why malik had been banned and fined but sources wsay that it was his indecipline in teh Australian tour and his negative influence on the team, it was confirmed in a leaked video of the inquiry committee meetings, in which Malik's role within the squad was blasted by a number of players including Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Yousuf.

Irfan Qadir, the arbitrator and a retired judge, will now send a report to the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt, who will put the decisions in front of the board of governors. "We're going according to our constitution which says an appeal can be filed in such cases," Butt told to the media"I will now receive the report from the arbitrator and then put it up in front of the board of governors for their approval." Though Butt refused to say so, it is expected he will approve the findings and that the board of governors will ratify it as well, thus removing legal obstacles from the way of Malik's potential return.

Don’t forget sohaib Malik was named in the list of 35 probables for Pakistan's next two assignments, in Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup and then a long summer tour to England, but it is unlikely he will make the cut for the first task. The 15-man squad for the Asia Cup is to be picked in the first week of June after a short camp to be organized in Karachi and the governing board's next meeting is likely to be after that.

The decision has also made a way for other cricketers to make a comeback. Cricketers like rana naveed ul Hassan, younis khan an M.yusuf would be confident after this decision.
shoaib malik current sponsor is woodworm.

SHOAIB AKHTAR BACK IN THE TEAM

I had been working hard in gym with Pakistan star Shoaib Akhtar, I always wondered that why is he working so hard on his fitness as it will be difficult for him to make come back. But today i got the reason behind his hard work when his name was announced in the 35 probable’s. When i met him in the gym, he was excited to be in the list, he said, heeagerly waited for this comeback. Today, he trained like anything, he was lifting heavy weights but only one goal on his mind, i need to play for my country again and i have to perform. It really clicked me, and i hope he may get a chance and perform because he has undergone sheer hard work for this comeback.
Anyhow, 35 players have been announced for the England tour and the final 15 will be announced later. Following are the probable’s for busy summer,
Salman Butt, Imran Farhat, Yasir Hameed, Khurram Manzoor, Shahzaib Hassan, Azhar Ali, Azeem Ghumman, Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal, Faisal Iqbal, Fawad Alam, Hasan Raza, Asad Shafiq, Umar Amin, Aamer Sajjad, Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi (capt), Abdul Razzaq, Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Sami, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan, Tanvir Ahmed, Aizaz Cheema, Danish Kaneria, Abdur Rehman, Saeed Ajmal, Zulfiqar Babar, Kamran Akmal (wk), Zulqarnain Haider (wk)
Pakistan has to play six test, five ODI’s and 4 T20 matches against Australia and England which will be played in England.
Shahid afridi has been named as the captain for the whole tour, he said at a press conference, "As a challenge I have accepted this," Afridi said. "Pakistan needs a senior player right now to lead them and that is why I accepted this. I don't think we should have too many expectations for Test cricket right now but I will try to get our ranking up to where it should be."
One decision that surprised all was the inclusion of 2 banned senior players, younis khan and shoaib malik
Well that is cricket new for you, where everything is possible !
I wish good luck to Pakistan team for the asia cup and the summer tour !
This is all from my side, would love your comments

PAKISTAN ALL TIME X1

Three fast bowlers have been picked unanimously in Cricinfo's all-time Pakistan Test XI. Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Imran Khan each received 10 votes from a jury that included Ramiz Raja and Intikhab Alam among others. The only other unanimous selection was Javed Miandad, in the middle order.

No current Pakistani player makes it to the side - unlike in five of the six all-time XIs named by Cricinfo so far. The most recent retiree was Inzamam-ul-Haq, who is at No. 5 in the order, with nine votes. Mohammad Yousuf, who received four votes, and Shoaib Akhtar (one) were among those who didn't make the cut.

Historically fast bowling has been Pakistan's strength, and it is a sign of how highly the fearsome and influential spearheads of the side's 1990s attack were rated that both were picked unanimously. While the two Ws made the XI purely as bowlers, Imran also serves as the side's allrounder. There was no consensus over the third quick bowler, though: Fazal Mahmood, who received three votes, edged out Sarfraz Nawaz and Shoaib Akhtar.

Wasim Bari and Rashid Latif were tied with four votes each for the wicketkeeper's place. Latif was picked for his superior batting.

The jury opted for an opening combination that would provide a mix of strokeplay and stoic defence: Saeed Anwar (six votes), who attacked no matter what the format or situation, and Hanif Mohammad (nine), who gave up his naturally aggressive style and dug in for several marathon innings to complement the stroke-making of his team-mates.

At one-down is Zaheer Abbas (six), the only Asian batsman to make over 100 first-class hundreds.

Only two members of the jury did not pick Abdul Qadir, who revolutionised legspin in the 80s and paved the way for the likes of Shane Warne and Anil Kumble, as the team's lone slow bowler.

Qadir also made it to the readers' XI, getting more than half the votes polled in the spin category, comfortably ahead of Saqlain Mushtaq. Latif narrowly missed getting the gloves in the readers' XI, losing out to Bari. The readers preferred Shoaib as the third fast bowler over Fazal. All their other choices matched those of the jury.

The jury included Salahuddin Mulla, who played Test cricket for Pakistan in the 1960s, cricket writers Qamar Ahmed (who also played first-class cricket and coached Netherlands) and Kamran Abbasi, and former administrators Shaharyar Khan, Arif Abbasi and Chishty Mujahid.

The XI: Hanif Mohammad, Saeed Anwar, Zaheer Abbas, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Javed Miandad, Imran Khan, Rashid Latif, Wasim Akram, Fazal Mahmood, Abdul Qadir, Waqar Younis

who could be the next PAKISTAN CRICKET TEAM CAPTAIN?

To lead an Australian side is far easier then to lead a team like Pakistan. Captaining teams like India and Pakistan is just not about leading the team, the responsibility is just not to lead the team, but to take responcibility of losing also. To save yourself from criticism is just not easy; no one better knows this thing better then MS dhoni or Shahid Afridi, ask them what is it like to lead the team?

Actually countries like Pakistan and India, the fan following is enormous, the expectations are sky high from the players and fans just don’t want their heroes underperform but once they don’t perform to their expectations, players face extreme heat.

The new cricket is completely different, the reason why i am saying it as new cricket is, the leadership role has been completely transformed, you may be the best team in the world but without a good leader you will not perform. The leaders role in the performances of the players has significantly increased with T20 being the future of new cricket, the responsibility and skill level add up.

Cricket is considered to be a funny game where many funny moments will snatch victory from you, therefore it has become an indispensible for a team to have a mature leader. After losing semi-final to Australia, the debate for a new captain has aggressed instantaneously for the Pakistani team.

As M.yusuf and younis khan are banned for indefinitely, shoaib malik out for nearly 11 more months, shahid afridi being a failure as a ground captain, Pakistan is looking for new face. Now who could be that new face?

Kamran akmal? NO! He has been under fire for his bad performance in Australia. Could it be misbah ul haq? The answer is no, he is very near to retire, Abdul razaq? Yes could be, but will you playing him in test matches in England where his medium pacer will not be lethal weapon.

Now the question is who could be that person to lead Pakistan in the Engloish tour, i reckon that should be Salman Butt, yes you read it Salman Butt, his surprising and excellent performance in ICC T20 cricket World cup has given a fair chance to lead the team.

He has the experience of leading the team, he captained u-15, U17, U19, Academy team to south Africa, so he knows what it is like to captain the team. Salman butt who is currently sponsored by ADDIDAS should be given a fair chance of leading the team in the English tour.

This is all from my side; your comments will highly be appreciated.

CLARKE wants to retain his captaincy

Michael Clark said he is ready to continue with the responsibility as a captain of Australian T20 squad besides bad performance in ICC world T20 cricket tournament. He said that he needs to rediscover his attacking nature of game to become a successful T20 operator. He said in an interview that he has no intention of leaving captaincy despite being not able to make a statement with the bat.

In the herald sun on Thursday, Ricky ponting said he was impressed with the leadership qualities that Michael Clarke possesses. Afterwards eve, Shane Warne defended Clarke by saying that Clarke was the best captaincy option and No. 3 for the Twenty20 team. All these statements came when Australia came back home after losing the final to England.

"Who knows? Maybe I need a little bit of that back," Clarke said. "Everybody has a different role in our team though and that is one thing that players certainly are aware of, and you need to do your role to the best of your ability.

"For me my role is not the same as Dave Warner or Shane Watson. I always want to perform, I always want to score runs, it doesn't matter what form of the game I'm playing, but like I said in this game, sometimes you can't always make those runs."

Clarke's future as the T20 captain is still in doubt, and his future will be decided in the next few weeks when the selectors will select the squads for the upcoming tour of England. It will be interesting to see whether the selectors still will pursue with Clarke or not as he himself is determined to take the role ahead.

"No doubt [I want to continue], I'm disappointed we couldn't win the World T20, win the final, but I've really enjoyed the opportunity," Clarke said. "I've loved playing with the guys, I've had a lot of support from people back at home, the people who came and watched the games in the West Indies, and family and friends, so it's been great and I'm enjoying it."

"It always hurts losing to England in any form of the game, but obviously a lot of guys in both teams that won't take part in the Ashes series," Clarke said. "They will take confidence out of it, no doubt about it, but I can guarantee the way we've been playing Test and one day cricket of late, or even T20 cricket in this tournament, we're very confident."

Well this is new cricket for you where everything is possible !

END of ICC T20!

The third audition of ICC WORLD T20 turned out to be very successful. The tournament made its success due to the atmosphere being provided by the Caribbean crowd. T20 cricket is always unpredictable and some matches proved it. The cricket being played was of superb quality. The tournament ended with little controversies. In the end, the biggest discussion going on regarding tournament is the WINNERS of this cricket trophy. The best two teams made it into the finals.

The winners of previous tournaments always provide plenty of stories; India's victory in 2007 sparked a revolution, Pakistan's in 2009 was a triumph against the odds and now England's was a historic moment for a side that had failed in world events for 35 years. And to break their duck, they beat a team that had produced some wonderful, scientific, intelligent, skilful and pleasurable cricket over two weeks. As the intellectuals say, Australia don’t give you success you have to earn it and guess that is what England has done, they earned their success through good cricket.

This year's tournament was characterized by large, boisterous crowds, especially when the home team was playing.

From start to finish the tournament was full of intrigue. Could West Indies spark a revival? Could Afghanistan make an upset at world stage? What would the new skill or shot be this time? What new techniques will be employed by the teams?
West Indies didn't make the semi-finals, which was a disappointment for the local crowd, because when they did play, the crowds produced a memorable atmosphere. Huge issues remain in West Indies cricket that need resolving..

Afghanistan were crushed by their two Test opponents,They were not overawed by India's superstars and after slumping to 23 for 6 against South Africa bravely avoided the lowest Twenty20 international total. They still impressed many !

The major disappointers were the India and South Africa; one troubled by the short ball, the other unable to make a run chase. Both teams have much to ponder over the next few months. south africa must be looking forward to win the series against westindies to gain some confidence back in the side.

Pakistan were the most lucky side in the tournament. Their victory against South Africa (and England's against New Zealand) earned them a semi-final berth where they lost the best everTwenty20 international match played as Mike Hussey played a blinder with his 24-ball 60. Pakistan were as unpredictable as ever, playing terribly against England, but raising their game against South Africa and showing the aggressive mindset with the bat needed to tackle Australia's attack.

New Zealand had a good outfit but could not perform; srilanka on the other hand will be pleased to get a berth in the semi-final once they lost their start off spinner murlitharan due to injury.

The 9.30am starts for many matches, purely for the Indian TV market, also weren't ideal. However, unlike in 2007, there were no insurmountable problems and the ICC certainly learnt from previous mistakes over pricing and accessibility.
No one invented a new shot this year, but the skill levels continued to rise. Batsmen have never been so confident in their ability to clear the boundaries, yet outright slogging was a rarity. Bowlers at both end of the pace scale enjoyed success - Dirk Nannes made superb use of the new ball, while Graeme Swann's spell in the final was a master class of offspin.

Dirk Nannes was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament, despite going wicketless in the final against England

The format's rise has brought many challenges to game, and some still sniff at the concept, it has also done a huge amount of good and what the last two weeks has shown is that nothing matches the intensity, passion and skill level of international competition

pakistan is defeated but not disgraced !

You will never expect Pakistan’s supporters feeling to hug their team in the time of defeat but you can sense this mood rippling around the fans after Pakistan’s loss to mighty Australia. Pakistan is traditionally known for its inconsistency, their bad performance, their comedy of errors in the field. You can expect Pakistan to be brilliant on one day and on the very second day you may see them losing to a team like Ireland. this is what Pakistani team is all about, you expect to be entertained, frustrated or bewitched at every twist and turn of the game.
To be fair, on this particular defeat, one can hardly blame Pakistan; they did the right things for most of the day. When you come up against the brilliance showed by hussey, you don’t feel ashamed of your defeat. i think everyone who understands and loves cricket will appreciate for what Australia achieved in this match.
The game did not deserve any loser, Pakistan played brilliantly for almost 36 overs of the game but Australia had the last laugh. i think the only thing which differentiated the two teams was the mental toughness, i was surprised to hear brad haddin during the match at the boundary that we are waiting for the last 4 overs and then we will go for winning it. i think it is in the Australian culture that never accept defeat unless you are really defeated.
The match will be remembered for years and years for brilliant skill shown by two great teams. Pakistan indeed is defeated but should not be disgraced. Pakistan was the under dogs for this match, they did nt give up, they went down fighting and when you go down fighting, you die with the honour intact.
There are still many things that Pakistan can cheer; they are the only team to play 2 finals and 1 semi-final of WORLD T20. Pakistani fan must be extremely angry at the defeat but they should accept defeat by thinking that their team fought hard but just could not end the game in their favour. I expect that Pakistan team should be welcomed with honour, warmth, affection and sympathy.
This is new cricket for you where everything is possible!

AUSTRALIA VS PAKISTAN 2ND SEMI FINAL PREVIEW

The second semi-final of ICC T20 will be played between the defending champions PAKISTSAN and hot favourites AUSTRALIA. Pakistan has just won 2 games out of the 5 they played whereas Australia has won all the 5 matches convincingly. Considering the current form of Australian team, there is no match for them.
Pakistan can still create upset and Australia must be aware of it. Pakistan team is facing problems with its combination; they have tried sami, asif n Khalid but they all failed. I reckon the team winning the toss will bat first and try to put runs on the board and then put opposition under pressure. Australia has chased only one match and that was against West Indies so Australia wont fancy chasing considering Pakistan spin attack.
If Pakistan bats first, kamran akmal will be the key, it is important for him to get start and give the coming batsman a platform for big hits. Shahid afridi played brilliantly against south Africa so he will also be a potential threat to aussies and they will be testing him on short pitched deliveries. If Pakistan socres more then 160, Pakistan will have an outside chance to win, bad nes for Pakistan is that, their start youn batsman, umer akmal has injured his back and probablt debuatant hammad azam will play instead of umer so Pakistan will be having a challenge to fulfil umer’s place who played exceptional cricket against southafrica and don’t forget, he is the current best fielder in the team so if he missed out, Pakistan will definitely miss him.
Australia has a perfect combination with smith impressing every one with his leggies. Australian openers have got starts, their middle has got starts, they have proved that even if their middle order fails, they still have the capability to score big.
St.lucia pitch might favour Pakistan because it is not a bouncy pitch, supports spinners so Pakistan must look to win this game.
I just hope that the match should be cracker, not a one sided contest.

ONE OVER CAN CHANGE THE OUTCOME OF THE MATCH

Most of the people would have slept in India thinking that India will win this game by more then20 runs and will still be in contention for the magical semi final spot. After scoring 163, dhoni would be feeling confident that he will defend not only this target but also beat them by 20 runs to remain in contention for semi final spot.
Srilanka required 107 in the last 10 overs, and considering the history of this tournament, it was near to impossible, book makers would have listed india favourites for the 39 overs but nobody thought that one over will change everything.
Srilanka required 32 runs to win from the last two overs, with no sangakara, no dilshan, no jayawardene and no jayasuria on crease; it was Mathews and kaugudere on the crease with vinay kumar, the debutant to bowl the penultimate over and ashish nehra to bowl the last over. I personally thought that india will win by a margin of at least 15 runs but i proved to be wrong.
They got 19 runs of vinay kumar over and they were left with 13 to win from the last over. Ashish nehra bowled the last over, who at the moment is the most dependable bowler for dhoni at this tournament, his first ball went for six, and srilanka required 7 to win from 5 balls, there was another twist in the over when Mathew got run out on the second last ball of the over with srilanka still requiring 3 to win. It would have been the greatest moment for kapugedare, he was confident and passionate, he hit nehra for six to long off and with it , left india thinking why did they kept playing IPL? :P
Now srilanka has almost secured place in the semi and they will be playing England.
This is new cricket for u, the modern day cricket. One over can change everything!

LUCKY PAKISTAN

Pakistan must invite england team for a dinner to show them how much they are greatfull to england team. pakistan surpsingly has qualified for semi finals. incredibly, pakistan has just won 2 games out of 5 and still managed to get into semi final, that what you call luck !
pakistan played good cricket against south africa, after losing 3 early wickets, two good partnerships lifted them to 148, and 148 would never have been easy for south africa considering pakistani spin attack. gibba was stunned by misbah's catch and it was the time for a awful, colorless team to get united and play like a team.
afrid must be appreciated by the way he marshalled his troops in the field, he was agrressive and at times, yelled at some of his fielders for sloppy work. every pakistani wanted to see pakistan team playing with passion and that is what was reflecting from pakistan yesterday.
ajmal and rehman bowled extremely well with ajmal taking 4 wickets was an exception on a pitch where south african spinner went for plenty.
pakistan watied for england to win the match, and it was a big relieve on part of afridi's head. probably, pakistan will be facing australia in the semi-final.
what should it be called? A blessing in disguise? an opportunity to take revenge of all the defeats in one match? will it be cracker or an one sider?
on paper, australia is too good for any team but considering the T20 format, any team on a given day can fall part so we will wait and see what happens ! :P

Monday, May 10, 2010

pakistan did well to reach 148

well after losing 3 quick wickets, pakistan still managed to score 148. that was a good effort. akmal brothers played really well especially the younger one, umer. he was the man who took the charge and left smith wondering about how to use his spin option.
razzak and misbah again failed today, but afiridi played well for his 30.
it will be interesting to see how south africa go about their chase considering pakistan has 4 spinning option and 1 quicky and 1 medium pacer.
cricket is a funny game, only one score of above 145 has been chased in this tournament, and it was against pakistan which england chased. cant wait for the match to start......

LONG BOUNDARIES IN ST.LUCIA will play its part

well pakistan is batting first after winning the toss and i think they are going with wrong 11, they are one bowler short and with razzak coming at 8, they basically have strengthen their batting by bringing in extra batsman.
dont think, south africa will mind chasing here at st.lucia becuase its a big ground with long boundaries ( approx 80meters). southafricans know that it is important to get 2's n 3's rather then going for big hits. whereas on the other hand, i think they have done the right thing by bringing an extra spinner van der merve instead of mornbe morkel because he has been struggling in this competition.
both the teams know that there is no other option to win, so both teams will be going for a kill.
i personally feel southafrica have the edge because one bowler short, pakistan will already be 15 runs short so it is important for pakistan to score above 160 to give its bowlers a chance.
match is about to start, so lets hope for a cracker !

positon in group F for semi final

Here are the permutations for the teams to qualify for semi-final in group F

Australia (points 4, net run-rate +3.250)
they are almost through to the semifnal with their two convincing wins, their net run rate is an incredible +3.25; the difference between their runs scored and conceded is 130. if West Indies beat Australia by 87 runs, and Sri Lanka beat India by a 68-run margin. Then both West Indies and Sri Lanka will have a higher NRR than Australia. It's a possibility, but only in theory

Sri Lanka (points 2, net run-rate -0.600)
They are currently in second place, thanks to a run rate that is better then West Indies. they need to beat India, and hope Australia beat West Indies, in which case Australia and Sri Lanka will qualify for the semi-finals on points. Sri Lanka will also be through if they lose to India by less than 20 runs and Australrefia beat West Indies.

However, even a win against India will not assure them a spot in the last four, if West Indies beat Australia. Currently, Sri Lanka have conceded 24 more runs than they have scored, while for West Indies the corresponding number is 43. If both teams win their final games and West Indies win by a margin that offsets that difference, then they will go through. Thus, if Sri Lanka beat India by a run, and West Indies beat Australia by 21 runs, then the home team will progress to the semis.
ref:cricinfo
West Indies (points 2, net run-rate -1.075)
The win against India has kept them in contention, but the huge defeat against Sri Lanka means their NRR is still languishing at -1.075. They'll qualify without the run rate coming into play if they beat Australia and if Sri Lanka lose to India. However, if they beat Australia and Sri Lanka beat India, then NRR will come into play. West Indies currently have a handicap of 19 runs compared to Sri Lanka (refer to the paragraph above), and they'll have to win by a margin that offsets that handicap. A defeat against Australia will put them out of the tournament, regardless of the result in the other match.

India (points 0, net run-rate -1.575)
For India to make the cut, they'll have to beat Sri Lanka by a margin of at least 20 runs, and then hope West Indies lose to Australia. Currently India have conceded 63 more runs than they have scored, compared to Sri Lanka's 24. If they win by 20 runs, their difference will reduce to 43 while Sri Lanka's will increase to 44, which will do the trick for India. If India bat second, and assuming Sri Lanka have scored 160, they'll need to chase it down in a maximum of 17.4 overs to lift their NRR above Sri Lanka's.

position in GROUP E

Here are the permutations for the group E for the semi final spot,

ENGLAND (2 wins, nrr +1.12760)
They are, quite obviously, the safest one to make it to the semi's. For them to be knocked out, New Zealand will have to beat them by 30 or more runs, and South Africa will have to beat Pakistan by 43 or more runs. Then New Zealand and South Africa will both have higher net run rates than England.

New Zealand ( 1 win, nrr-0.3)
equation is simple for newzeland, they win and go to semi, if they lose, then go home. What happens in the other match doesn't much matter to them. If South Africa win the first match, they will go to four points, and New Zealand will have to win to come level on points, and then their better net run-rate should carry them through. If Pakistan win, New Zealand know they can't afford to lose because that loss will leave them level with Pakistan at two points, but Pakistan will have a better net run-rate.

Pakistan ( 0 wins, nrr -0.215)

They need to beat South Africa, and then hope that England beat New Zealand later in the day. they have the best run rate among the three. if they lose to south africa, then the team will be packing back. if they best southafrica and newzeland beat englandm they are still out, so therefore, pakistan would be hoping that they beat southafrica and england beat newzealand and they will be through with better run rate.

South Africa (1 win, -0.650)

They can't sneak in based on net run-rate, because they are the worst among the three right now. They will need to beat Pakistan and then hope that England beat New Zealand. If New Zealand win, South Africa will most likely be out, unless they beat Pakistan by a mammoth margin, and New Zealand win very narrowly.

pakistan vs newzealand preview

today is the decider match atleast for one team, one who loses will be out of the tournament and the one who wins will fancy her chances to make it to the semi-final.
pakistan will be under muct pressure because they are the world champions and they would be under extreme pressure because if they lose,it will be the first time they will be out of the tournament before playing finals.
pakistan neec to really focus on the game, unfortunately for some team players, there have been news in the media regarding their australian tour of their mis-behaviour.
pakistani players will be feeling the heat, they will be striving for better performance whereas newzealan will also be under pressure to win this game.
what can pakistan do?
team combination is important, i dont see fawad alam's place in the final 11
afridi has to lead from the front, hisd captaincy has been under lot of questioning and he has yet to prove his leadership
afridi need to show his capatiancy on the ground, there is no coaching in the ground.
afridi need to adjust his bad feilders, like ajmal where he can hide him
bowling combiantion must be spot on
afirdi need to bat lower down the order and send razzak a lil upward
he has to motivate his players to perform.

Pakistan paid for dropped catches

England won the toss and decided to field. Pakistan got off to a great start with the opening stand of 44 in 5.4 overs. England faster bowlers opted the strategy of bang it in but thereafter it was over to the slower men, with the spin of Michael Yardy and Graeme Swann joining forces with Paul Collingwood's to thwart the flow of runs. Yardy leaked consecutive fours to Mohammad Hafeez as he struggled at first to find the right length, while Collingwood was belted for a massive six over midwicket by Butt, but the change of pace kept the run-rate in check, while serving up three vital wickets.
The first of those was Butt, who had been cruising along before he skimmed a flat drive off Swann to Collingwood in the covers. One over later, Umar survived a stumping as Kieswetter fumbled off Yardy, but England responded with two in two balls, as Hafeez slashed a shorter ball to short third man, before the main man, Afridi, dabbed his first ball into the covers, set off for a non-existent single, and didn't even try to regain his ground as Luke Wright lobbed the ball back to the keeper.
Misbah-ul-Haq flogged a Broad free hit into the stands for six before Yardy bowled him with a quicker ball as he telegraphed his intended reverse-sweep, and though Umar batted with purpose to make 30 from 25 balls, he was brilliantly snaffled on the boundary's edge by Pietersen, who sprinted back towards the rope from long-on to cling onto a steepling chance as the ball plummeted over his shoulder. Fawad Alam then snicked his third delivery, from Broad, through to the keeper, to leave Pakistan in some strife on 120 for 7 with 16 balls remaining.
Thanks to some sloppy late work in the field, and some ambitious biffing from the tail, Pakistan managed to hoist that total to a defendable 147 for 9, but once the catches started to go down, there was no way of reeling England back in.
Chasing 148 for victory after winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, England were indebted to three incredible let-offs from Saeed Ajmal, who dropped Craig Kieswetter twice at mid-on and Michael Lumb once at mid-off, all inside the first five overs. The first reprieve, off the sixth ball of the innings, was the most culpable, as Kieswetter drove Razzaq into Ajmal's midriff, only for the ball to bobble free as he inexplicably attempted a shy at the non-striker's end.
Thereafter, the ball pursued Ajmal like a Guyanese mosquito, as England's openers muscled their way to an opening stand of 44 in 5.4 overs. Kieswetter's first boundary, in the third over, came courtesy of a chipped drive off Mohammad Aamer that would have been snaffled by a more athletically timed leap, while Lumb's let-off came just as England were stepping up the pace of their chase - 19 runs had been bashed off Mohammad Asif's second over, and Lumb had just made that 23 in seven balls with a clipped four through fine leg when Ajmal failed to gather a drive off a low full-toss from Aamer's very next delivery.
Ajmal did make partial amends for his butterfingers when he drew Lumb down the pitch with his fourth delivery to have him stumped for an aggressive 25 from 13 balls, while Kieswetter fell three overs later for 25 from 27, but not before he had bludgeoned Mohammad Hafeez for a massive six that took a chunk out of the Garry Sobers pavilion at midwicket. It was the safer hands of Umar Akmal that ended his stay, as he backpedalled on the long-on boundary to hold onto a lofted mow.
But Pakistan's dose of the dropsies didn't end there. Pietersen belted a drive into - and out of - Razzaq's hands as he steadied himself in his followthrough, and then creamed Ajmal to long-off where Aamer leapt with one hand but could only parry the chance over the rope for six. Pietersen, whose form has been hit-and-miss of late, didn't need a third invitation to cash in, and Shahid Afridi was whipped back over his head for a second six, to bring up a 37-ball half-century.
In the same over, Paul Collingwood - who had been the silent partner in a 60-run stand for the third wicket - picked out Umar on the long-off boundary to depart for 15 from 16 balls, but with 23 runs required from 24 balls, there was no late collapse on the cards. For once, Eoin Morgan failed to apply the finishing touch as Ajmal slipped an arm-ball through his defences, but Pietersen stood firm to deliver a vital victory.
In the final analysis, Pietersen's substantial performance proved to be the difference between the teams. With the sizeable exception of Shahid Afridi, who ran himself out first ball, most of their batsmen made starts - including Kamran Akmal, who swatted the first ball of the innings, from Ryan Sidebottom, over fine leg for six. But after an erratic display, their highest scorer turned out to be Salman Butt with 34 from 26 balls.
in the end, the main difference proved to be the fielding. pakistan dropped 5 catches and whereas england holding to the ones which came their way.

ENGLAND, the latest victim of D/L method

engalnd fell prey to D/L rules against their crucial match against WEST INDIES. After scroing 191 runs, they would have been pretty satisfied the way they had played and deserved to win the match, but when the rain came in, WI were 30/0 in 2.2, when the play restarted, they required 30 of just 22 balls and WI achieved it.
after the match, collingwood looked depressed and he was not happy with the D/L method being applied to T20 cricket, he said he is satisfied with D/L bewing employed in one day cricket, but for T20 cricket, there must be some new method. he said im not a mathematician bt still D/L needs a revision.
gayle also suppoorted collingwood's argument by saying i agree with what collingwood said. the rules need to be revised, collingwood reaction is normal, after putting 191 runs on the board and still truning to be a loser is depressing.
so now? what will ICC do? we will wait and see.
one thing is sure, this WC will be affected by rain severly so as a advice to every team, win toss and chase.

INDIA ready to do anything to retain NO1 spot in test cricket

well well well india is ready to do anything to retain no1 spot in test cricket ranking.
In its quest to maintain India's No.1 Test ranking the BCCI has sent a proposal to Cricket Australia to convert the seven-match ODI series in October to two Tests and three ODIs. India had climbed to the top spot in 2009, after drubbing Sri Lanka 2-0 at home, and then retained the ranking by fighting back to level the two-Test series against South Africa in February.

"We've got an open mind on it but it's being discussed and that could be the road down which we will go," a CA spokesman told the Australian on Tuesday.

This is not the first time the Indian board has intervened to change the original itinerary of a proposed tour. Earlier this year Cricket South Africa had agreed to a compressed tour of two Tests and three ODIs, replacing the original five-match ODI series. India's change of mind came in the wake of ascending to the No.1 Test ranking for the first time, and they were eager to preserve it.

According to the ICC's Future Tours Programme, India were scheduled to play only a handful of Tests in 2010, an aberration the BCCI is desperate to correct. So far this year, India have played four Tests but are lined up to play three in Sri Lanka in July, and then another three at home against New Zealand at the end of the year.

Asked if the BCCI had indeed formally requested the Australian board, N Srinivasan, the Indian board's secretary did not deny or confirm the news, saying he would be issuing a press release soon on the matter. CA were more forthright and positive about the development.

"One of the thoughts going through our heads is that we've got an Ashes series coming up and all we've got between now and then is two Tests against Pakistan in England during July," the spokesman said. Australia host England in November and are keen to avenge the 2009 Ashes defeat.

"Playing Tests in India in October may not be a bad idea because it gives us another chance to have another reasonably contemporary Test experience under the belt."

CRICKET RULES TO BE CHANGED BY MCC

The MCC members are set to vote on a number of changes to the Laws of Cricket at the annual general meeting at Lord's on Wednesday and, if passed, the changes will come into effect on October 1.

The major amendments concern the umpires offering light to batsmen, rules on boundary fielding, run outs where the batsman loses his bat after making his ground, and penalties on batsmen who damage the pitch. The MCC members will also be asked to cede authority on passing new Laws of Cricket to the MCC Laws sub-committee and main committee.

The main change to the law relating to umpires suspending play as a result of the fitness of the ground, weather or light, is that they will no longer "offer the light" to the batting side, but decide to suspend play themselves when they consider it to be "unreasonable or dangerous".

In view of the increasing frequency of athletic saves on the boundary, the MCC has created a law to clarify when the ball is beyond the boundary. The Laws sub-committee felt "it would be wrong to allow a fielder, seeing a ball flying over his head and over the boundary, to retreat beyond the boundary and then to jump up and parry the ball back towards the field of play." The change will require the fielder's first contact with the ball is when he is grounded within the boundary or, if he is in the air, his final contact with the ground before touching the ball was inside the boundary.

With regards to run outs, the change proposed is that a batsman will be not out if, having grounded some part of his foot behind the crease, he loses contact with the ground at the time the stumps are broken; for example, if his bat gets jammed in a bowler's footmark and he drops it after having entered the crease.

Explanation of the proposed changes

The changes to laws 3.8 and 3.9 relate to the umpires suspending play as a result of the fitness of the ground, weather or light. The main change is that the umpires will no longer offer the light to the batting side. It was felt that, at present, the decision to stay on or come off the field was often made on tactical grounds based on what best suits the batting side, rather than on grounds of safety or visibility. In bad light, umpires will now only suspend play when they consider it to be unreasonable or dangerous. Unreasonable is to be regarded as being inappropriate, rather than conditions simply not being very good. The new law should result in less playing time being lost. This concept has been trialled by the ECB in county cricket with generally positive feedback.

The changes to laws 12.4 and 12.5 involve the toss. In law 12.4, it was felt that it would be good practice to say that the toss should be made in the presence of one or both of the umpires. Law 3.1 already states that the umpires shall be at the ground at least 45 minutes before the scheduled start of play. Furthermore, laws 1.2, 3.3 and 3.4 lay down a number of points that need to be agreed between the umpires and the captains before the toss and the laws sub-committee thought having at least one umpire at the toss would help formalise the whole process. Some people have expressed concerns over this new law for certain games at amateur level where there are no formal umpires but the laws must set out what is best practice. Laws 1.2, 3.3 and 3.4 have been in since 2000 without drawing complaints. The new 12.5 forces the captain winning the toss to notify his decision to bat or field to the other captain straightaway. The current law states the notification could be delayed until 10 minutes before the scheduled start of play. The sub-committee heard of examples where this law was being exploited as a means of gamesmanship to give the other team less time to prepare.

Law 17 concerns practice on the field. Law 17.1 has clarified the area that can never be used for practice as being the pitch and the two strips either side of it. Laws 17.2 and 17.3 clearly outline when and what practice may take place on the rest of the square (17.2) and on the outfield (17.3). A ban has been placed on fielders partaking in practice with a coach or 12th man during play. The club has noticed that such practice is becoming more prevalent and felt it should not be allowed. With slow over rates becoming an increasing problem, the fact that practice should not waste any time is reinforced more strongly than before. It is also clarified that deliberately bowling the ball into the ground in practice will contravene Law 42.3 (The match ball - changing its condition).

A new 9.4 has been created to clarify further when the ball is beyond the boundary. In recent years, increasingly athletic pieces of fielding on the boundary have brought this area of the law into the spotlight. The laws sub-committee felt that it would be wrong to allow a fielder, seeing a ball flying over his head and over the boundary, to retreat beyond the boundary and then to jump up and parry the ball back towards the field of play. Consequently, law 19.4(i) requires that the fielder's first contact with the ball must be when some part of his person is grounded within the boundary or, if he is airborne, that his final contact with the ground before touching the ball was within the boundary.

Law 24.5 (fair delivery - the feet) has been amended in relation to the landing of the bowler's front foot. It became apparent that some slow bowlers were bowling with their front foot going right across to the other side of the stumps. This meant that a bowler could, for example, say that he was bowling over the wicket but release the ball as though bowling round the wicket. The Laws sub-committee felt that this is not fair, particularly taking into account the positioning of the sight-screen, and consequently altered the Law so that the bowler's front foot must land with some part of his foot, whether grounded or raised, between the return crease on the side on which he runs up past the wicket and an imaginary line joining the two middle stumps.

Law 28.1 (wicket put down) has been amended so that any part of the striker's bat is capable of putting the wicket down. Although it is a rare occurrence, the Club is aware of situations where the bat has broken while hitting the ball and a part of the bat has hit the stumps, putting the wicket down. The Laws sub-committee felt that, whilst this would be an unfortunate method of dismissal for a batsman, a part of a bat that has broken off should be treated in the same way as a bat that has fallen out of the batsman's hand.

Law 29.1 (When out of his ground) has been amended so that a batsman who has been running to make his ground will be considered to be in his ground if, having grounded some part of his foot behind the popping crease, and still with continuing forward momentum, he loses contact with the ground. This will particularly be useful in televised games where a player has clearly made his ground but, at the moment that the wicket was put down, he is not in contact with the ground because he is running and, for example, his bat has flicked up off the ground after passing through a bowlers' foothole. It is in the nature of running that in every stride, both feet are simultaneously not in contact with the ground. It would therefore be unjust if a batsman were to be out in such circumstances.

Law 42.14 (Batsman damaging the pitch) has been amended so that the batting side receives one less warning than under the current Law. Currently, on the first offence the side is warned; on the second offence, there is a further warning and any runs scored are disallowed; on all subsequent offences, any runs scored are disallowed, 5 penalty runs are awarded to the fielding side and a report is lodged with the appropriate Governing body. In the proposed new version, there is a warning on the first instance of the batsman damaging the pitch, but any repetition will see any runs scored disallowed, five penalty runs awarded to the fielding side and a report being lodged with the appropriate governing body. This is consistent with law 42.13 (fielder damaging pitch), where there is only one warning before penalty runs are issued.

WAKE UP PAKISTAN TEAM

Loss to Australia is a great wake up call for Pakistan. When you are winning, no one points out at your weaknesses and everyone talks about what you have done right but once you start losing, things start to change. Pakistan won the match against Bangladesh and that win might have prevented the management to ponder and think over the mistakes they had done in that match. I think management was in fool’s paradise that butt and akmal will give them the firy start, but they forgot that Australian attack is completely opposite to Bangladesh attack.
Anyhow, let us have brief look what actually happened in the match. Australia won the toss and elected to bat and it was an obvious decision that Clarke had to make. Amir started well and wait a minute what do we see? hafeez ?yes hafeez is going to open the bowling from the other end. It was a surprise but warner and Watson didn’t take it as a surprise rather they took it as a gift from afridi. To be honest, afridi didn’t look like a captain which he pertain to be, i think he had some pre match planning regarding who to bowl which over and that is what he did. Continuing with hafeez was a sin, and then not giving the ball to razzak not even for one over was highly questionable! Pakistan had a rigorous fielding camp in Pakistan, but they didn’t show it on display that they had worked on their fielding fitness. They kept dropping the catches, and Australian utilizing the big boundary, kept taking doubles from the boundary riders. I think big grounds does not suit Pakistan style of cricket, their running between the wickets is pathetic, quality of their boundary fielding is not to be mentioned and off course their special aptitude of dropping catches make it even worse for them.
chasing 192 is always difficult but still a better effor from akmal brothers, razak and butt was required.
There were some blunders that afiridi made during the match, oh common afridi you cannot compare asif with sami, asif is a world class bowler and every Pakistani wants to see him in action, for GOD sake give him a game. Opening with hafeez might not be a bad decision but why continue with him? Why not just give him 1 over and then analyzing the reaction of the batsman change him? Afridi afridi afridi, Razzak was your best bowler in the previous tournament, common he is the most experienced bowler on tour, you didn’t give him one over, i seriously don’t understand this !. can somebody tell me in the world what fawad alam’s role in the team? You don’t get to bowl, you don’t get bat, are you playing as a fielder?
Now the things is, Pakistan has lost the match, and every one like me will be going to criticize afridi’s captaincy, so Mr Captain, you might get another chance to prove yourself in the next round ( provided Pakistan reaches). You need to select the best possible eleven without personal biasness. You need to motivate your boys and common guys that match is over, we are the world champs and let us show to the world that we can get back on track !
GOOD LUCK 

WI vs ENGLAND preview

West indies will be facing England today here at providence. West Indies overcame Ireland pretty comfortably in their opening match and should face a much stronger test against an England side. English team would be desperate to win this match and make a mark in this tournament. Engalnd camp would be feeling confident after they beat SOUTH AFRICA in a warm up match one week before. Ottis Gibson (WI coach) will have plenty of inside knowledge about this England team and has regular captain Chris Gayle back from injury to implement the regular strategies he makes.
On the dull and slow pitches we have seen so far at Providence, the spinners play a key role and it will be crucial how the West Indies batsmen deal with English spinners. Against Ireland they were almost embarrassed by 17-year-old left-arm-spinner George Dockrell, so Graeme Swann and Michael Yardy should feel confident.
England will be testing out yet another opening partnership in Twenty20 cricket and with Michael Lumb and Craig Kieswetter they feel they have finally stumbled on a combination powerful enough to dominate the early overs. England have worked hard to create a competitive ODI side and with Morgan as a specialist finisher, things don’t look bad for ENGLAND for this match/
Form guide (most recent first)
EnglandLWLWA
West Indies WLLLW
Watch out for...
Watch out for kieeron pollar, he is brutal with his hitting capabilities but i think he need to come up a lil bit do that he may get 4,5 overs to play. His outings in the IPL were short and severe, clubbing boundary after boundary on his way to 273 runs at a strike rate of 185.71. If he gets hold of England's pacers, the Providence ground may not be big enough.
The World Twenty20 is littered with stars, many still swirling in their IPL riches. Michael Yardy is not one of them. Yet in the sticky conditions, his nagging left-arm-spinners have proved a revelation in the warm-up games, taking five wickets over the two games at a meagre economy rate. He could throw sand in the wheels of West Indies' middle order and chip in with lower-order runs if England get in trouble.
Team news
West Indies regular captain Chris Gayle will be back after he missed the Ireland game with a stiff buttock, meaning either Andre Fletcher or Narsingh Deonarine will drop out from the team that beat Ireland. Sulieman Benn remains doubtful with his shoulder injury as does Jerome Taylor.
West Indies (probable starting 11) 1 Chris Gayle (capt), 2 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 3 Ramnaresh Sarwan, 4 Narsingh Deonarine, 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Kieron Pollard, 7 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 8 Darren Sammy, 9 Nikita Miller, 10 Ravi Rampaul, 11 Kemar Roach.
England are on baby-watch with Kevin Pietersen looking forward to his first-born, but he'll be available for this opening match and with Lumb expected to keep Ravi Bopara out of the side the top-order is settled. Their fast-bowling options are more muddled with Ryan Sidebottom's excellent form prompting calls for his elevation into the side, but it would be hard for him to dislodge one of James Anderson or Stuart Broad.
England (probable starting 11) 1 Michael Lumb, 2 Craig Kieswetter, 3 Kevin Pietersen, 4 Paul Collingwood (capt), 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Luke Wright, 7 Michael Yardy, 8 Tim Bresnan, 9 Graeme Swann, 10 Stuart Broad, 11 James Anderson.
Pitch and conditions
The cheap boundaries that tend to epitomise Twenty20 cricket should be harder to come by on the Providence wicket. In sweltering conditions the ball should grip on a sluggish surface for the spinners and make any maximums altogether more memorable than normal. It's unlikely the pacemen will have much to draw from the wicket and it will be sweaty work for all the fielders in the heat.
West Indies have an excellent T20 record against England winning three of four encounters, most recently in the last World Twenty20 when they knocked England out of the tournament
England will try out their 16th opening combination but if Lumb does indeed join Kieswetter there will be the added twist that both openers are on debut, it will be interesting to see how they go about it.
My vote will be for ENGLAND unless pollard shines with the bat.

AUS vs PAK preview

The defending champions Pakistan take on Australia today at st.lucia. Pakistan beat Bangladesh yesterday by 21 runs and they will be feeling confident ahead of this match. Whereas on the other hand, Australia will be under extreme pressure to win this. Australia lost their opening fixtures in both the previous world cups and their coaching staff must have briefed them about how important is it to begin well.
Australia is taking this format seriously now and they have specialist T20 players in their current squad. They are with their new captain Michael Clarke. David Warner, Cameron White, David Hussey, Shaun Tait and Dirk nannes are considered to be their T20 specialist with mitchel Johnson, Michael hussey , brad haddin and Michael Clarke having the experience of all the three levels.
Australia has all the three quickies who can bowl around 90mph so dealing with the pace trio of mithcell Johnson, shaut tait and dirk nannes wont be easy. The big decision that Michael Clarke has to make is to whether to go with specialist spinner Nathan haurtiz or to go with hard hitting allrounder Stephen smith!
Afridi said after the match about ‘butt’, i thought maybe he was going to the WI with me, but i don’t think he will get a chance. But when i saw him, he was batting really well, especially in the first six overs, i told salman: ‘you are my main guy’.
Pakistan probably will go for an unchanged side. There was not much of a practice for the middle order batsman of Pakistan in the previous game so it is important for Pakistan that their openers give them the right start.
Australia (probable starting 11) 1 Shane Watson, 2 David Warner, 3 Michael Clarke (capt), 4 David Hussey, 5 Cameron White, 6 Brad Haddin (wk), 7 Michael Hussey, 8 Steven Smith, 9 Mitchell Johnson, 10 Dirk Nannes, 11 Shaun Tait. .
Pakistan (probable starting 11) 1 Salman Butt, 2 Kamran Akmal (wk), 3 Shahid Afridi (capt), 4 Abdul Razzaq, 5 Misbah-ul-Haq, 6 Mohammad Hafeez, 7 Umar Akmal, 8 Fawad Alam, 9 Mohammad Sami, 10 Mohammad Aamer, 11 Saeed Ajmal.
Pakistan better watch out for david warner because the new ball pair of Pakistan provides pace and thats what warner looks for. If he gets a start, it will be threatening one for Pakistan.
"On these types of tracks he'd be very difficult for the opposition."
Shahid Afridi wants Nathan Hauritz to play. But does he really think he'll be a threat or does he just want to face him?
"They're not going to be bowling short. They're going to be bowling full and they're going to be going further. So we'll see what happens."
David Warner is eying the straight boundaries in this tournament

pakistan did it !

Well well well as precdicted Pakistan won the game but having said that it is bad to make predictions in a TWENTY20 match. Surprisingly and strangely M.asif was left out in favour of M.sami who is not at all consistent performer and at times can turn out to be a great gamble to play but anyhow Shahid afridi had the confidence on him and he thought he would be more useful than M.asif.
Winning the toss and batting first was the obvious decision that afridi had to made. Salman butt for me was the surprise of the day, having hit the very first ball of his innings with power towards extra cover was a signal of something really special coming up from him. Both the opener’s intent was clear; just go after the bowlers yet sensibly.

Both aggressed regularly but with thought. Akmal's stance was predictable, almost immediately trying to set the agenda. A bold statement was made against left-arm spin - Bangladesh's most potent weapon - straight away, as he twice swept away Abdur Razzak in the second over. Akmal was the who taking risks was and it paid off when a mis cued pull shot was bluffed by M.ashraful. Bangladesh was made it pay for that chance and akmal started to open his shoulders. On the other hand, salman butt played intelligently, hitting boundary in almost every over. Surprisingly for everyone in the word watching him play, he scored his fifty in just 29 balls.
Akmal got out in the 16th over, then came the boom boom afridi. Pakistan could not capitalize on the perfect start given by their openers and they managed 30 runs in last 26 deliveries.
Pakistan camp seemed pretty satisfied with 172 runs as at the toss, Afridi said anything above 150 would be good.
Amir gave Pakistan the perfect start, getting rid of kayes in the very first over. M.ashraful and Shakib ul hasan played brilliantly well and at one time it seemed like they might even take the game away from Pakistan. With 5 overs remaining and 52 to get with 8 wickets remaining, the match was almost evenly poised.
Afridi game turned to sami, i personally thought it was a bad move as sami can go for plenty but it was the captain’s faith on him, he didn’t disappoint his captain and he got 2 wickets in that over and the match virtually over at that time, with ashraful going out in the next over. Pakistan was safe. Ajmal bowled a superb last over and eventually Pakistan won the match by 21 runs.
There are some positives that Pakistan can take from this match. Salman butt’s inning was special, their opening stand of 142, amir, ajmal and sami bowling pretty well but still there are some aspects of the game on which Pakistan still has to work on. I think their running between the wickets were poor, their boundary riders could not prevent doubles and afridi really has to find a place for ajmal because he is not a quick mover and therefore cannot prevent singles by fielding in the inner ring nor does he has the strongest of arms to field at boundary.
Overall a fine display by Pakistan, yet they can improve. Bangladesh will take many positives out of this game. Tomorrow there will be a cracker of a game between Australia and Pakistan so c yaaaaaa.....

IPL absentees ready for clash

The defending champion of previous ICC T20 cricket world cup, Pakistan will take on Bangladesh in an interesting group A match here in st.lucia. Pakistan has played only six international T20's since the last year final whereas Bangladesh has played only two. No player from either side was featured in IPL, both the team players have just played domestic T20's coming into this WORLD CUP whereas the majority of other international players featured in money rich but now considered corruption rich IPL.
Both the teams favours this short format, as we all know PAKISTAN is a real champ in this format and as far as Bangladesh is concerned, the shorter the format the greater their opportunity.
Cricket is a funny game as said by many famous cricketers but T20 adds more fun to it. Unmatched teams in a test match can provide you a thriller in a T20 match. The format is such that the margin of error is very low, your small mistake can cost you a match therefore you need to be on your toes for the whole 40 over’s.
Considering this match, Bangladesh can turn out to be a big threat for Pakistan as their recent performances against England and India speaks of their improved performances. Players like shakib ul hasan, mortaza, razzaq, ahraful and mahmudullah are all threats to any teams because on their day, they can turn the tables around. Pakistan will be without their T20 specialist umer gul, but still tell me is there any side more flexible than Pakistani team? FIVE all-rounders in the team and 3 of them would feature in any starting 11, my vote is for Pakistan in this cricket match.
Both the teams are blessed with quality spinners and it could be another low scoring match as the pitch would play slow.
Pakistan has to choose between sami and butt, if they play sami they will be with four fast bowlers and 3 spinners to back, but if they play butt, it adds an extra batsman to their line up. It will be interesting to know who plays.
Starting11 (PROBABLE)
Salman butt/sami, hafeez, kamran, umer, misbah, afridi, razzak, amir, asif, ajmal, amir

SPIN WILL BE THE KEY IN THIS CRICKET WORLD CUP

By looking at the warm up matches scorecards and after what happened in the first match of the tournament between NEWZEALAND and SRILANKA, it is obvious to say that spin will be the key succes factor in this tournament. scott styris said in an interview to cricinfo, it seems like these pitches are tired, lot of cricket has been played on these surfaces and we know that these pitches will not support faster bowlers, it is nice to know it suits my kind of bowling so i am looking forward to be a valuable part of the team.
In the business world, only those organization succeeds in the long run who adapt themselves with the external environment as the external environment elements are uncontrollable therefore you cannot control or change them ratheer you need to adapt to the environment. now every team is looking to adapt new strategy and it will not be a surprise if we see spinners opening the bowling just as what nathan mcculum did yesterday.
every team is now changing their strategy, one thing is sure the pitches will be slow so rather praying to GOD that a certain pitch plays fast on a given day, why not start working on shots that can give you runs on these slow tracks.
if we analyse the spin armouries of every team, i think pakistan and bangladesh leads the chart. pakistan has 3 specialist spinners, shahid afridi, saeed ajmal and mohammad hafeez, dont forget fawad alam is also a spinner. on the other hand, bangladesh has also 3 specialist spinners. i like srilankan attack, murli, jayasuria and mendis, whereas south africa has only two, botha and van der merve. india has harbajhan singh and chawla, australia struggles in this deparment as they have only one specialist spinner in the squad, newzaealand has 2,WI has 2.
this is modern cricket for you, spinners opening the bowling, taking wickets and slowing the tempo :P
